Unit 6: Water, land and air (Agua, tierra y aire)

WATER (AGUA)

Water has no taste, colour or smell / El agua no tiene sabor, color ni olor.

THE THREE FORMS OF WATER (LAS TRES FORMAS DEL AGUA)

You can find water in three different forms: liquid , solid and gas / El agua tiene tres formas distintas: líquido , sólido y gas .

Water is a liquid , ice is a solid and water vapour is a gas àEl agua es un líquido , el hielo es un sólido y el vapor de agua es un gas .

Water turns to gas when it is hot / El agua se convierte en gas cuando está caliente.

Water turns to ice when it is very cold / El agua se convierte en hielo cuando está muy frío.

Water turns to liquid at room temperature  / El agua se convierte en líquido a temperatura ambiente.   

THE WATER CYCLE  (EL CICLO DEL AGUA)

Evaporation: when it is hot, water from the sea evaporates  à Evaporación: cuando hace calor, el agua del mar se evapora.

Condensation: the water vapour condenses into tiny drops and forms clouds àCondensación: el vapor de agua se condensa, convirtiéndose en gotitas que forman nubes.

Precipitation: when the clouds are cold, it rains or snows à Precipitación: cuando las nubes se enfrían, llueve o nieva.         

Collection: the rain or snow falls into the sea à Recolección o recogida: la lluvia o la nieve cae al mar.

The water cycle is a continuous process of evaporation , condensation , precipitation and collection à El ciclo del agua es un proceso continuo de evaporación , condensación, precipitación y recolección o recogida.

WATER AND LAND (AGUA Y TIERRA)

The Earth is covered with water and land /La Tierra está cubierta de agua y tierra.

There is more water than land on the Earth. / Hay más agua que tierra en la Tierra.

We can find water in many different places in nature. Most of the water is salty. / Se puede encontrar agua en muchos sitios diferentes en la naturaleza. La mayoría del agua es salada.

We can find water in seas, lakes, rivers , streams , waterfalls and groundwater. / El agua se encuentra en: el mar, los lagos, los ríos, los arroyos, las cataratas y debajo de la tierra (agua subterránea).

The water in the seas and oceans is saltwater./ El agua del mar y de los océanos es salada.

The water in rivers, lakes and streams is freshwater . / El agua  de los ríos, los lagos y los arroyos es agua dulce.

The land on the Earth can be soil, sand or rock. / La tierra en el planet Tierra está formada por tierra , arena o roca.

Plants and animals live in soil. / Las plantas y los animales viven en la tierra.

LOOK AFTER THE ENVIRONMENT / Cuidar del medioambiente

The water in the seas and oceans is saltwater à El agua de mares y océanos es salada.

The water in rivers, lakes and streams is freshwater à El agua de los ríos, lagos y arroyos es dulce.

AIR / AIRE

Air is a mixture of gases. We cannot see air but it is all around us. à El aire es una mezcla de gases . El aire no se ve pero está a nuestro alrededor.

People and animals breathe oxygen from the air. All living things need air to live à Las personas y los animales respiran oxígeno del aire. Todos los seres vivos necesitan el aire para vivir.

Wind is air that moves à El viento es aire que se mueve.

You can move objects with air, for example, by blowing à Se puede mover objetos con el aire, por ejemplo , al soplar .
